  • NIST announced the opening of the public comment period on the industrial control system (ICS) augmentations to SP 800-53, Revision 1, December 2006. NIST expects the comment period to close on August 31, 2007. The augmentations are posted on the FISMA/ICS website:
  • Since the Kingston tour has been limited to 40 attendees, I have scheduled two special sessions for that time slot for those who either couldn’t or chose not to do the tour. The two special sessions are “The ramifications of the Brown’s Ferry broadcast storm to nuclear and non-nuclear facilities” - it is essentially a session on Ethernet LANs for control systems. The second session is on “cyber security of field devices”. The discussion and demonstrations will be on how cyber compromises of field devices such as protective relays can be used to impact large equipment such as transformers, turbines, and compressors. If anyone planning on taking the tour would rather stay for these sessions, please let me know.
